Ready or Not...

In the past 6 months, I have biked 902 miles, ran 280 miles, and swam 26.7 miles (1,872 laps in Fordham University's swimming pool). I have trained in three of NYC's five boroughs: da Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn, in addition to New Jersey, upstate New York and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. I have had 24 training buddies...from Portland and Seattle to England and Paraguay, not to mention NYC, New Mexico and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. My mom and dad even hit the bike trail with me earlier this week as I finish off my training taper. It was sure neat to see familiar faces out on the trail...it's good to be home!! I have trained through a bicycle crash in the Bronx and my first ever anxiety attack in Harlem, and yet training has also taken me to the top of Bear Mountain in upstate NY and across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset for spectacular views I may have never seen otherwise...

I have done all of this in preparation for the Coeur d'Alene Ironman, only 3 days, 7 hours, 26 minutes and 20 seconds away, according to the official race clock countdown. The race itself begins this Sunday, June 21st (Happy Father's Day, Dad!) at 7am. I have until midnight to finish. Ay yi yi! Ready or not, here I come!

I am using Ironman as an opportunity to raise money for the Inland Northwest chapter of the National MS Society in honor of my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Jan Whitcomb. Were it not for her, I would not be doing Ironman this year. An inspiring woman with MS, she happens to be retiring from teaching this year to focus her time and energy on her own kiddos. The school district will miss you! I would also like to give a shout-out to long-time family friends, Sandy Mamola and Rhonda Tranmer-Lamping, who are ironwomen in their own right, having endured MS for many years. This is for you!

Thanks to the GENEROSITY of everyone on this email list, YOU have donated over $800!!!! I am only $170 away from my goal of $1000!! The top 50 fundraisers will receive additional funding for their charities from Janus, the Charity Challenge sponsor... the Charity Challenge deadline is this Saturday morning, when I will submit the GRAND TOTAL!! Donations can still be made online via my Janus Charity Challenge website. http://januscharitychallenge.kintera.org/cda09/hanatOr if you would prefer to give cash or check, let me know how much you would like to donate by this friday, June 19th. I will have two weeks to collect all cash/check pledges.

Thank you for EVERYONE's SUPPORT!! It has been truly AWE-INSPIRING to see many of you out and about this week, here in my good ol' hometown of Coeur d'Alene! The comforts of home and familiar faces have certainly eased my apprehensions, though I'm definitely still ANXIOUS! I know many of you will be out on the course working aid stations and/or cheering us on! Thank YOU ahead of time. My race number is 79. I'll be wearing all black (with exception of my red bangle bracelet from Ethiopia), and a white helmet on a black/white Cannondale bicycle.

Ready or not,
Hana T.
