I never did find them. So I showed up in NYC on the snowy evening of January 10th with a big backpack, lugging a 60 lb suitcase, with NO keys and no idea where the new apartment was located. (Kinsy's phone had died the week prior, so she was unable to get ahold of me, and our new roomie Michelle was nowhere to be found). All I could do was ride it out. Fortunately, Bryan Miller (SU alum) bestowed hospitality upon me, sparing me from a night of homelessness. So I climbed up and down countless stairways to catch the two trains and three subway rides necessary to get to his place in Brooklyn. I arrived three hours after landing, completely exhausted.
The next morning (I mean afternoon-I slept over 12 hours), my new roomate Michelle called. Turns out she was also in Brooklyn, not too far away, and was DRIVING up to our new place in the Bronx that very afternoon. She graciously offered to pick me up and made several sets of keys on her way. I am completely grateful to Michelle and Bryan! Things worked out better than I could have ever planned! Never underestimate the power of prayer and letting go. I wonder if my keys will show up once the snow in Coeur d'Alene begins to melt???
So here I am. Back in NYC. Wondering what the heck I'm doing here, but also knowing that there is no other place I'd rather be. Frank Sinatra once sang "If I can make it there (NYC), I can make it anywhere" I suppose that's how I feel. I want to accomplish something here in NYC...finding a job, training for triathlons, making a niche for myself...even the simplest of tasks here take an immense amount of effort, so any accomplishment is quite fulfilling. In the meantime, I'm celebrating the small victories...for example, there were a couple baby cockroaches living in our bathroom, so I caught them all and flushed them and haven't seen a sign of any since! Happiness IS. Other than that, our new apt is very nice with lots of space for breaking...however we now live above an old lady who's always home. So no more home practices for me :(.
More small world encounters:
1. Ran into my middle school/high school crush over the holidays and while striking up conversation with him for...hmm, let's see... the THIRD time in my entire life, found out that he's also living in NYC!!! We had a nice chat and might just meet up out here.
2. One of my favorite people in the WHOLE world recently informed me that he has moved to Washington DC. He also informed that one of my other favorite people in the WHOLE wide world will be visiting him in DC, THIS VERY WEEKEND. SO, with that said, and the inauguration coming up, I have decided to ROADTRIP down to DC tomorrow to see my good friends from college, Tuseef Chaudhry and Michael Leigh! I can't wait!!!!!! I'll also be meeting up and staying with the whole StormoGipson family who are flying into DC from Coeurd'Alene for the inauguration!! Nothing like having good friends from the west coast to hang out with on the east coast. Westside on the Eastside.
I wish you a HOPEFUL and PEACEFUL 2009!!
Love,
Hana T.

Oh my, the congregation in my mind
Is an assembly selling gratitude and practicing their lovin' of you"
